Case Management Applications :

Most of Case Management Applications are all built on Content / BPM Platforms, like IBM Case Manager or EMC Dynamic Case Manager.

Case Management standard (CMMN) does not mandate the use of Content / BPM Platform for implementation of Case Management.

Definition of Case Management from wikipedia :

"Case management is the coordination of services on behalf of an individual person who may be considered a case in different settings such as health care, nursing, rehabilitation, social work, disability insurance, employment, and law. "

Case Management is all about empowering Case workers by providing them the flexibility and dynamism to achieve their intended outcomes.

What are the essential platform requirement for Case Management ?
-- There should be a way to control Task execution
-- Should support Entry and Exit conditions for Tasks
-- Various Tasks types, like Human Tasks, Process Tasks, Discretionary Tasks etc -- Support for document pre conditions
-- Support for Event processing
-- Support for Data model in Cases and Tasks etc

So we looked at platforms that can provide a good platform for Case Management -- and a Workload Scheduler fits well.

Workload Scheduler Platform :

Today most IT enterprises widely use Workload scheduling software to execute various Jobs or Tasks to achieve enterprise workload scheduling.

Workload scheduler software are known for their efficiency in concurrent job execution, dependency resolution, event handling and report generation.

Workload scheduling works on the model of Design, Deploy and Execute.

- Design : Design Job schedules , dependencies, calendar entries etc for enterprise workload
- Deploy : Deploy step deploy the job and schedule definitions to the server for execution in

production
- Execute : the execution of the actual job and schedules in real time on the server

Workload Scheduler automates, monitors, and controls the flow of production work through an enterprise's entire IT infrastructure, where as the Case management is built around the concept of

processing a case, a collection of information and coordinated tasks, by knowledge workers (or case workers) to achieve a desired outcome. Using Case Management, the partially repeatable business problems are addressed by the case worker. The finesses of the Workload scheduler architecture provide the flexibility in implementing the Case management system requirement.
