Abstract

Data Security is of prime importance to all when using a device (like computer, mobile, tablet, ATM, or any other device, etc.) or any application (like Banking application, e-commerce website where money transactions are involved, HR database, Research applications, etc ). Usually people use password or specific patterns in authenticating a device/application. The password or patterns can be cracked easily by shoulder surfing; or by observing the user's device or keyboard when he enters his password or pattern; or the password is not strong enough; or by attempting multiple times to guess his authentication key. Hence, we need a more advanced way in authenticating a device/application.

Disclosed is a security feature that detects if the person who enters the password in his device/application is the real owner or not based on his finger touch screen patterns. The feature uses touch screen patterns of the entered user's password and stores the parameters in its database.

Usually people use password or specific patterns in authenticating a device/application. The password or patterns can be cracked easily by shoulder surfing; or by observing the user's device or keyboard when he enters his password or pattern; or the password is not strong enough; or by attempting multiple times to guess his authentication key. Hence, we need a more advanced way in authenticating a device/application. The feature provided uses finger touch area to detect if the person is the real owner or not for more advanced security as everyone has different finger size.

This feature can detect if the user who entered the password is the real owner or not by storing his finger touch size/area in his device or application. The device/application should build its intelligence in knowing the real owner by storing the real owner's finger touch patterns. It can be used in addition to password or pattern authentication. It can be applied in any device where biometric cannot be applied as biometric requires extra sensors.This can also be applied as an extra security feature. It is only applicable if the user is not using a "stylus pen" to enter key strokes.

This is how the feature works :


1. For additional security, the application asks the user to enter the password using his preferred finger(the finger which he wish to enter ONLY the password). The password can be entered by any fingers(index, thumb, small, middle, ring) in hand (left, right) and in any combination. It records that finger touch area of the password.
