Method and System for Performing Cognitive Analysis for Social Status Import and Content Visibility

Disclosed is a method and system for performing cognitive analysis of content pertaining to social contacts of a user to determine if the content should be imported and made visible on the user's timeline. The social contacts of the user can be, but need not be limited to, friends of the user, relatives, and members of the user's social network circles. Further, the method and system recommends import of content from a timeline of the social contacts of the user based on a relationship strength analysis, a timeline event significance such as, but not limited to, anniversary, graduation, birthdays and weddings, contextual analysis and an evaluation of rules.

In accordance with an embodiment, the method and system includes various components such as, but not limited to, a social network component, data sources for retrieving content and sentiments, a cognitive system to perform contextual analysis of content and a rules engine.

The step by step process executed by the various components of the method and system is as follows.

Firstly, the method and system initiates import of social content to a timeline of a user, wherein the user has created a new social network account or has an existing one. The user is also able to view social content and status of the user's friends on the friends' timelines. The content can be imported to a user's timeline from a social network component that includes data sources such as, but not limited to, a friend's social network, a cloud repository and local devices.

The method and system allows the user to select social content and to request import into the user's own timeline from the social network component.

Secondly, the method and system performs a contextual and cognitive analysis of the content to be imported utilizing the cognitive system, wherein the content resides on the user's friends' social network or on the cloud or local devices. The cognitive analysis includes performing facial recognition of people in each photo. Based on the analysis, the method and system determines if the content is appropriate for import.

The method and system, then, utilizes the rules engine to evaluate a set of sharing rules for importing content from the friends' social network. Depending on the prerequisite configuration on rules for sharing, the following rules are defined. For example, a friend defines auto rejection rules that denies approval of any content of the friend for import by the user. On the other hand, if the friend has granted the user complete approval, then all content selected for import is able to be imported by the user. The friend also grants approval to content based on a context for the import. Though the friend has granted the user approval, the method and system further evaluates a set of rules for people requiring approval based on appropriateness of content before an auto approval is...
