Server virtualization is a common approach to cost reduction and management within datacenters today. The resources that make up the virtual environment are constantly being optimized for the environment itself. As the optimization takes place, there can be unseen challenges to various methods of converting images into and out of the environment.

Thus, there is a need for a smarter and a more efficient way of importing images into the environment as well as exporting them from the environment.

Disclosed is a method and system for automating conversion of virtual resources through the use of a smart queue virtual conversion server (SQVCS). The method and system improves the accuracy and speed at which virtual images are imported into or exported out of an environment.

With a custom SQVCS that accurately monitors a queue, the method and system requires minimal management intervention by automating the process and allows reporting to an environment or a user.

The method and system captures the virtual image disk format and allows this to be a format to be uploaded to a custom SQVCS for export to various formats for cloud or local consumption.
