Abstract

Disclosed is a solution that attempts to ensure delivery redirection for an order placed on an e-commerce channel when delivery cannot be made to a given geographical region (identified by its Pincode) due to temporary changes like weather or other regional and logistics considerations like a worker's strike or break down of delivery trucks. The system uses linked social media accounts to identify a friend or an acquaintance who is situated in an operating delivery route that is convenient for customer pick up and prompts the same as a delivery redirection suggestion.

The system and method described below is used to generate delivery redirection suggestions based on the linked social media information available on a customer's shopping profile in case of unavailability of delivery routes at the originally desired location.

For any electronic commerce channel, it is possible for a customer to link his social media account with his online shopping profile. During product selection, the availability of delivery routes for a certain geographical area is currently determined using identifiers like Pincodes (Postal Index Number codes) to detect the delivery routes in a particular area.

Unavailability of delivery routes for a particular pin code could result in loss of order, cart abandonment, customer dissatisfaction, thus, tarnishing the credibility of the company. The loss of delivery routes on an otherwise available route due to temporary changes like weather or other regional and logistics considerations like a worker's strike or break down of delivery trucks can also result in a delay of delivery and may even result in the loss of orders.

The system aims to mitigate such a situation by suggesting alternate addresses or Pincodes based on the customer's linked social media information. The system would link to the customer's social media accounts to identify the customer's friends or acquaintances who reside in the alternate Pincode and suggest making deliveries to them. This way, using the customer's social media information the loss of an order, or a negative customer experience can be avoided.
