The next generation of stent could be as proposed here as Shape Memory Biodegradable Polymer Stent", which is made as a solid tube in large diameter as a manufactured shape. At the temperature above its glass transition temperature (near human body temperature) when material becomes soft and elastomeric, it is being pulled from two ends to become smaller diameter, followed by quick cooling to room temperature below its glass transition temperature. The shape in smaller diameter is then fixed as long as the temperature is kept below body temperature or glass transition temperature. When this fine tube is inserted at the location of blocked artery it is recovered or re-shaped to its original manufactured shape in large diameter because it is exposed to body fluid and higher temperature above glass transition temperature.
