The existing remote data replication techniques DO not copy the data in coupling facility(CF), a very important hardware/software component in parallel sysplex environment. Without the data replication of CFs, the risk of data loss are raised and re-cover time objective (RTO) could be extended in those Disaster recovery (DR) solutions.

This invention provide a method to transfer the data in CF between two sites. This method improves the integrity and consistency of data through replicating the data in CF simultaneously or near-simultaneously with leveraging the existing remote data replication techniques. It can reduce the time that the backup site take over the primary site.

This invention has the following advantages:
1. It can coexists with the existing remote data replication techniques
2. The data copy operation runs underneath the system and it is transparent to application system and end users of the system
3. The user can choose the different way for data transmission according to the actual situation

Description of the invention

This invention provides more complete data through transferringthe data in coupling facility (CF) between sysplexes on two sites. The new method in this invention replicates the data in CF of the primary site to the secondary site along with other data replicationmethod . With the data in CF duplicated, integrity and consistency of application and system data are improved and the time for system in secondary site to take over is reduced.

Figure 1 depicts the infrastructure and major components of a Parallel Sysplex consists of two systems . Two systems connect toshared

disks through ESCON (Enterprise Systems Connection) or FICON (Fiber Connection) channels; Sysplex timer is used for time consistency in sysplex; CFs connecting to both systems achieve the status switch and data exchange for two systems . All hardware components, including systems, disk and CF, are in one site. This solution can deal with the malfunction of one hardware system , but not able to handle the malfunction of whole site, no matter the disaster.
