Abstract

Soft Nonwoven is a premium product, especially for diapers. Adding Vistamaxx™ performance polymers to Polypropylene reduces the rigidity of fabric. Also, slip additives can be added for a smooth hand feel. Slip additives migrate to the surface and therefore reduce the Coefficient of Friction (COF). Slip additives are low molecular weight substances. A typical slip additive is Erucamide. It generates lots of volatiles during conversion and wax deposit stick to the inside of nonwoven machines. This study of a new slip additive shows the new additive provides a significant reduction of wax during conversion and maintain performance.

Background:


Soft Nonwoven demand is increasingly used for premium diapers. It is required to maintain good quality and increase productivity. Current slip additives (e.g., Erucamide) lowers productivity because of wax deposit in the machine, therefore requiring frequent cleaning. Achieving less wax deposit and increase productivity with same performance is the topic of this work.
