Disclosed is a system and method for recommending ingredient substitutions integrated

within a web browser.

Aspiring chefs have access to millions of recipes through the internet, but these recipes are often static and do not provide for dynamic ingredient substitutions. The disclosed system integrates with a web browser to provide the existing ingredient substitution services to the chef dynamically within the web recipe page.

Often times, finding recipes online is very easy. However, occasionally, the desired recipe requires less common ingredients. So, many chefs use substitutes for ingredients that provide a similar flavor or quality that makes the dish still enjoyable. The system integrates with the web browser to provide interactive ingredient substitution with static online recipes.

With the existing technologies, the system only needs to provide an easy to use user interface. The internet hosts many recipes that are often times displayed in text format to the user. Also, there are a number of ingredient substitution services available. The system is embedded into the web browser so that when it detects a recipe on screen, it inserts dynamic code to transform the static recipe text into dynamic substitution capable text. So, when the user selects a substitution capable ingredient, the system

will provide all of the substitutions available to the user.

Once the user selects a substitution, the system replaces all occurrences of the prior ingredient. When the system parses the page, it identifies all of the ingredients mentioned in the ingredient list and pairs them with the mentions in t...
