Disposable razors for personal shaving do not have methods by which to judge the effectiveness of a blade. Current solutions rely on more subjective or complicated means such as the apparent smoothness of skin, the visual lack of hair, or computer Imaging. These solutions do not provide actionable information.

A method is needed by which to track and gather key shaving metrics (e.g., number of razor passes, total shave time, force required to produce a close shave, etc.)

The novel contribution to knowledge is a razor handle that gathers measurable data during a shave. This razor uses a system comprised of an accelerometer, a gyroscope, and a pressure sensor. The system communicates collected data to a remote or local application using Wi-Fi Bluetooth* technology.

An associated application provides actionable metrics about the blade and the method of shaving, including:


 Duration of shaving activity


 Number of razor passes


 Average force used


 Comparison to previous shaves

The application then reports those metrics to the blade manufacturer.

Using a local communication method, the razor handle sends shaving metrics to a local application using Bluetooth. The local application sends metrics to a remote database.
