Autonomous Wearable UAV Dock

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are useful for reconnaissance and aerial photography. The flight time of lightweight UAVs is limited by the battery life and the distance from a recharging station. To mitigate the battery life problem, a user manually carries the drone until it is needed; however, this solution is inconvenient and makes it difficult to quickly deploy the drone when it is needed.

A method is needed to simultaneously address both the battery life and user

convenience problems.

The novel solution is a wearable device for the autonomous deployment and docking of a lightweight UAV. The design is for a wearable docking station that charges the UAV and allows the UAV to automatically dock and undock without physical human interaction.

An embodiment of this idea could be a backpack equipped with a docking station and a

UAV that can land and launch from the backpack upon the wearer's/user's command. The UAV can also be fitted with a mechanism to allow it to easily connect to the backpack's dock. The autopilot flight controls of the UAV can be configured to launch and land from the UAV. A signal marker will be present in the wearable to alert the

UAV of its location.
