A Method for Cognitive Augmentation of Voice Activated Alarms

Voice-controlled computer systems and electronic devices are increasing in popularity.

As the number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices also grows, cognitive augmentation of voice-activated alarms can make those devices even more convenient.

The problem addressed with this disclosure is that a user might set an alarm on an IoT device (e.g., verbally telling the system on a smart watch to set an alarm for a number of minutes), and then become involved in another task and forget that the alarm was set. When the alarm sounds, if the user does not remember the context for the alarm, then he/she might ignore it.

Existing technologies fail to consider predicting the context (i.e., reason for) of voice-activated alarms. While the existing technologies provide systems to manage alarm events in some industries or predict user behaviors, current systems do not use the surrounding IoT devices to collect specific data, or use feedback from users to achieve self-learning for this cognitive purpose.

A method is needed to include self-learning and context with the process of setting an alarm on a smart IoT device.
