Abstract

The disclosure concerns drive appliances and managing of drive appliances. Specifically this disclosure concerns a solution for establishing a Bluetooth connection with a drive appliance. In the improvement, there is provided a solution for establishing a Bluetooth connection with a drive appliance which solution introduces a way to switch the Bluetooth pairing mode between a secure pairing and a local pairing. The secure pairing requires a user authentication to access the PIN code of a drive which PIN code is stored in a remote database which can only be accessed by authorized personnel with a username and password granted by an access granting entity. The local pairing requires the user to have physical access to the drive appliance.

The disclosure concerns drive appliances and managing of drive appliances. Specifical- ly this disclosure concerns a solution for establishing a Bluetooth connection with a drive appliance.

In managing of drive appliances there is a need for a user of the drive appliance, e.g. maintenance staff or customer, to establish a wireless connection from his mobile de- vice to a drive appliance via Bluetooth technology.

Recently, user has established a wireless connection from his mobile device to a drive appliance via Bluetooth technology with a direct connection to said drive appliance. In a previous solution the user has had to pair the mobile device with a drive by entering a PIN code of the drive to his mobile device. The drive has displayed to pairing PIN code to anyone that has an access to a physical drive appliance.

In the improvement, there is provided a solution for establishing a Bluetooth connection with a drive appliance which solution introduces a way to switch the Bluetooth pairing mode between a secure pairing and a local pairing. The secure pairing requires a user authentication to access the PIN code of a drive. The local pairing requires the user to have physical access to the drive appliance.

In the improvement, when a secure pairing mode is selected as the Bluetooth pairing mode, there is provided a secure solution for establishing a Bluetooth connection with a drive appliance in which the PIN code is stored in a remote database which can only be accessed by authorized personnel with a username and password granted by an ac- cess granting entity.

In Figure 1 the communication and information flow between a drive appliance, a mobile device and a remote database is illustrated in chronological order.

In the first step (Step 1) a drive appliance is broadcasting an ID that can be used to identify the drive appliance. This broadcast is captured by a user with any Bluetooth enabled mobile device.

In the second step (Step 2) the user of the mobile device chooses the drive from a list of captured drives. After this a special mobile application makes a query request for a pair- ing PIN code to a remote database. In the query request username, password and drive ID is passed with the query request as a key.

In the third step (Step 3) upon successful authentication the remote database replies to the mobile device with a pairing PIN code for the drive appliance.

In the fourth step (Step 4) the mobile device completes the authenticated Bluetooth connection by pairing with the drive appliance using the pairing PIN code. After said pairing the Bluetooth connection between the mobile device and the drive appliance is established.
