Abstract

The main idea is based on the concept of being able to pump a bubble that holds in place a fluid plug, in other industries there are some technologies that can pump a liner for example in the cured in place liner which it is expanded by pressurizing the interior of the material and allowing it to cure. In our case this liner can be either rubber, similar material than the cured in place pipe or even a degradable disappearing material. The concept then is to develop a mechanical pill that assists this fluid to be able to achieve it required seal, for this we need a mechanism that holds in place the diverter or fluid while it gets its properties adequate to perform as an isolation barrier.

    There are limited intervention methods in the Re-Frac Market, one of the thoughts in a refrac application is to isolate the intended fracture zone above and below the zone. Recently there are two internal developments to achieve this, one by the use of a straddle mechanical packer that is able to isolate the zone and being able to fracture in between and a second alternative which is to deploy a tension packer to isolate above the interest zone and isolate the zone below with a fluid plug or diverter, this last has severe challenges as the diverter has to be placed in a horizontal section of the well, the gravity effect over the diverter intended for this application decants the fluid and creates a channel at the top section of the well, this effects reduces the capability of creating a seal with the fluid by itself.
