Abstract

Three-phase AC-DC converter is widely used as DC power supply. The Boost rectifier is the most popular one. However, Boost rectifier only can step-up the output voltage. If we want a lower output voltage, another buck DC-DC converter is needed. The proposed topology can achieve high efficiency and low cost at the same time. The proposed topology of bidirectional three-phase buck rectifier can achieve high efficiency. When the proposed bidirectional buck rectifier works in AC-DC mode, the currents flow through one switching device and one diode in each leg. When the proposed bidirectional buck rectifier works in DC-AC mode, the currents flow through two switching devices and one diode in each leg, in which one switching device is always on and does not have switching loss. Thus, its efficiency is quite high. Furthermore, the proposed topology of bidirectional three-phase buck rectifier can achieve low cost. The proposed topology only needs only 8 switching devices, and two of them can be low frequency switching devices as they do not always act.

1 PRINCIPLE APPLICATIONS/USES OF THE INVENTION

This invention proposed one topology for bidirectional three-phase buck rectifier. The proposed topology is suitable for the bidirectional step-down AC-DC application. It can decrease the loss of diodes to increase the efficiency. It can decrease the number of switching devices to decrease the cost. Thus, the proposed topology can achieve high efficiency and low cost at the same time. Moreover, the basic control principle for the proposed topology is the same as that of the conventional topologies.
