Abstract

Disclosed are a method and system to use cognitive analytics on the input from historical meeting corpus to capture the subject/discussion topic for a new meeting. The solution provides an organization a centralized way of aggregating and analyzing information from across the Lines of Business (LoBs) so that it can efficiently and cost effectively address company-wide challenges.

Method to Capture the Subject /Discussion Topic for a New Meeting Using Input from Historical Meeting Corpus using Cognitive Analytics

Large enterprises have many Lines of Business (LoBs) and typically have a siloed organization. The vertical alignment of the LoBs generates a pattern of isolated decision-making due to the lack of insightful collaboration across LoBs. Thus, when common business problems need collaborative solutions, attempts to develop solutions manifest in redundant concurrent discussions and meetings as each LoB has its own approach.

The lack of cognitive capabilities to analyze the wealth of information within the organization in an automated fashion further exacerbates the situation. Without the proper cognitive capabilities, organizations cannot leverage relevant, targeted information for organizing meetings or facilitating discussions around a subject area.

A method is needed to provide an organization with a centralized way of aggregating and analyzing information from across the LoBs so that it can efficiently and cost effectively address company-wide challenges. A meeting coordinator needs help identifying the most useful meeting topics in order to facilitate discussions that involve multiple LoBs. The goal is to improve productivity by reducing the amount of time spent on meetings and discussion within the LoB, due to the lack of insight at the enterprise level. In addition, business leaders need a way to receive dynamic feedback and a holistic view of the organization as it relates to spending.

The novel contribution is a method and system to use cognitive analytics on the input from historical meeting corpus to capture the subject/discussion topic for a new meeting. The method analyzes and presents information to the meeting initiator about likely outcomes or suggested outcomes based on aggregated sentiment analysis of the discussion topics, using historical corpus.

The novel approach includes background prompting, which is a methodology for the capture, analysis, and extraction of insight from meeting interactions within an organization, from the corpus that the organization provides as a data source of valuable information. When the topic is complex enough and matches the likely outcome, the system posts it to the appropriate forum, where interested parties can interact to resolve the problem. The system also provides the link into the meeting invitation (invite) for reference.

The novel method and system capture regular meeting contents and then integrate the content with historical information retained in systems. Organizations can use those systems to mine for additional insights. The core idea is to extract entity information from the discussion topic and capture the subject of the proposed meeting. The system then feeds this information into a cognitive computing modeling engine, which has the corpus of information from the prior discussions and text logs. The cognitive computing modeling engine performs a...
