Disclosed is a method and system for providing cognitive pattern determination for energy storage utilizing a vast array of data. Through cognitive techniques, the method and system dynamically determines the proffered usage patterns on a daily basis based on a large amount of known data, variables and projections advanced through cognitive learning.

The method and system derives a cognitive approach to determine if thermal energy generation and storage is preferred over peak traditional electricity consumption. Further, the method and system defines dynamic variables and includes the dynamic variables in a cognitive method for determining energy consumption decisions.

The method and system, then, utilizes the cognitive approach for examining if producing ice banks for energy overnight is more conducive or preferable over consuming electricity at peak demand prices based on multiple dynamic variables

The various steps executed by the method and system are illustrated as follows.

Firstly, the method and system acquires data regarding energy consumption of an area or building in scope. The method and system, then, collects current pricing for power rates from a power service provider and determines actual past usage rates at different times of day, and during weekdays and weekends.

For example, the method and system utilizes crowd sourced data and collects information about crowded buildings such as, but not limited to, a time when people or employees arrive and depart at a workplace. Also, the data is collected anonymously to avoid any issues with infringement on personal privacy.

In the case of weather data acquisition, the method and system collects past data trends, present data and weather forecasting models. Using predictive weather forecasting and introducing weather data trends, the method and system enhances the energy usage consumption models.
