Mobile Device Alerts for Hot Pavement Detection

It can be difficult for a blind person when walking to understand if the surrounding pavement is becoming hot. In the sun, this makes a huge difference for a guide dog. A dog's paws can be affected by concrete that heats in the sun and can influence the dog’s ability to safely guide the person.

Disclosed is a system to prevent the visually impaired from aggravating and endangering seeing-eye dogs due to heat exposure. The novel solution incorporates a wearable smart device to create a system that can sense the surrounding temperature. The system leverages location technologies, as well as visual recognition technologies, to determine whether a person is in a location prone to having a hot surface. The system notifies the person handling the dog when the pavement passes a certain temperature threshold, and then directs that person to a cooler area or path.

Note that there are products such as boots and other things to protect a dog's feet, but things can change during the day temperature wise.
