Method and System for Dynamically Managing Prioritization of Autonomous Vehicle Emergency Right Of Way Travel

Automated or Driverless vehicles is going to create unique challenges for Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs). For example, if two or more ERVs are to traverse a same road system, there need to be a protocol in place to determine priority that takes into account the needs of the whole system as well as those of the individual emergency.

Disclosed is a method and system for dynamically managing prioritization of autonomous vehicle emergency right of way travel.

The system is configured to sort traffic routing requirements based on predetermined s tandards of triage for emergency and real time traffic conditions for automated ERVs. The system deploys sensors and integrates roadway infrastructure for tracking location of emergency vehicles. Further, the system uses recorded events on domain dependent, domain independent factors such as medical/emergency factors, and vehicle factors for prioritizing ERVs.

The system enables constant communications among autonomous vehicles using a standardized communication system for active and reactive yielding of right of way in an emergency situation. If two or more autonomous vehicles are in the midst of emergency event, then one vehicle yields to the other based on a standardize weighting mechanism in accordance with the system disclosed herein.
