Abstract

This invention helps an amateur photographer take a photo that meets the expectation of the people being photographed. When the assistant mode is on, the photographed person drags the human icon on the control panel to a desired position on the screen. After the photographer takes over the camera, he or she moves the camera around according to the composition hints given by the camera. When the camera position matches the position suggested by the camera, the camera zooms in the main character or characters so that the photographer can better observe and capture the most ideal moment. If it detects interference or obstacles, the camera displays thumbnail of the whole photograph.

A mechanism to help the photographer capture the scene preferred by the photographed

People like to take photos of themselves to record moments, either to share with friends or help themselves memorize the happy moments. Some use selfie stick, but the stick still has a limited range. As a result, people need to ask another person, for example, a passenger, to take a photo of themselves, for example, at a tourist attraction or during a team outing. People that love being photographed have a higher chance to know how to choose a good scene and have their own judgement about how to composite the whole photo. To make the passenger take a photo that meets their expectation, there might many abstract verbal communication, which might cause unexpected misunderstanding. The misunderstanding cannot be fully aware of until the photo has been taken and examined, in which case all the people have to do it again to correct it.

So, we want to figure out a mechanism to avoid such inefficient shoot-exam-reshoot cycle and help an amateur photographer take a photos that meet the expectation of the people being photographed.

User A represents one or more persons to be photographed. User B represents the amateur photographer that is giving a helping hand. The camera here refers to the photographing module of any smart phones.

Our hypothesis is that user A is skilled at deciding composition for photos while user B needs the expertise from user A to take a satisfying photo for user A.

The workflow is as follows:

1. User A finds the desired composition by using the camera and enable the assistant mode after she obtains one. User A must choose an object of reference, which is better to be a large-scale still object.

2. When the assistant mode is activated, user A drags the human icon that appears on the control panel to the desired position to indicate that she wants herself appear in that position of the whole photo.
