FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a multirotor wind turbine, i.e. a wind turbine comprising two

or more energy generating units. The multirotor wind turbine of the invention comprises at

least one load carrying structure, each load carrying structure being arranged to carry at

least one energy generating unit, and being arranged to be connected to a tower structure.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Wind turbines normally comprise one or more energy generating units, each energy

generating unit comprising a hub carrying one or more wind turbine blades. The wind acts on

the wind turbine blades, thereby causing the hub to rotate. The rotational movements of the

hub are transferred to a generator, either via a gear arrangement or directly, in the case that

the wind turbine is of a so-called direct drive type. In the generator, electrical energy is

generated, which may be supplied to a power grid.

Some wind turbines are provided with two or more energy generating units in order to

increase the total power produced by the wind turbine, without having to provide the wind

turbine with one very large, and therefore heavy, energy generating unit. Such wind turbines

are sometimes referred to as ‘multirotor wind turbines’.

In multirotor wind turbines the energy generating units may be carried by a load carrying

structure which is, in turn, connected to a tower structure. Thereby at least some of the

energy generating units are not mounted directly on the tower structure, and they may have

a centre of mass which is displaced with respect to a longitudinal axis defined by the tower

structure. During operation, vibrations may occur in the energy generating units and/or in

the load carrying structure. Such vibrations may have undesirable implications, in particular if

transferred to the tower structure.

CN 104564525 A discloses a wind generator unit comprising three energy generating units.

Two of the energy generating units are mounted on a transversal load carrying structure,

which is attached to a tower structure. The tower structure is supported by two rods, which

are attached to the foundation of the wind generator unit. Damping pads are provided at the

foot of the tower structure and at the foot of each supporting rod. The damping pads reduce

vibrations generated by the wind.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

It is an object of embodiments of the invention to provide a multirotor wind turbine, in which

transfer of vibrations from energy generating units and/or load carrying structures to the

tower structure is minimised.

It is a further object of embodiments of the invention to provide a multirotor wind turbine, in

which undesirable vibrations of the tower structure are minimised.
