Abstract

This invention is intended to provide a unified notification system to user devices targeting a global and personalized user experience. It proposes a rule based notification management system residing on a cloud and using a ‘Rule Engine’, that is allowing a user who possesses multiple digital devices (including IoT devices), to manage and customize, according to a user defined profile, all the notifications originating from his multiple service providers to his devices.

The advantages of the new proposed notification service are: Consolidation and standardization of notifications from varying sources. Rule management feature allowing customizing the way notifications are managed and received. User sensitive solution accounting for multiple devices per user.

A System, Method and Apparatus for Notification Management

Several Push Notification solutions exist today but, in general, these have several limitations (see section#2) and do not provide:

· User centric view and operation with consideration of multiple devices per user.

· Consolidated notifications from varying providers. · User driven rules and customization to allow for relevant notifications

to occur at the right timing (right timing for the user, not for the notification issuer) and according to a user profile.

Given the above a new push notification solution is needed to overcome the above limitations.

1/ System Components Below is a brief description of system layers and components (bottom up):

1.1 - Push Notification Producers These constitute notification sources. They can be split into three categories: · Mobile applications back-end servers · Internet of Things devices connected to the Internet through a Wifi

connection (IP camera, Drone…etc) · Internet of Things devices directly connected to the mobile device

through Bluetooth (Smart Watch, activity tracker…etc) 1.2 - Push Notifications services (Server side)

These are push notification providers that use notifications generated by the ‘Push Notification Producers’ layer, apply some processing and push them to mobile devices.

These are typically push notification service providers existing today. 1.3 - Mobile and desktop devices

These are the target devices that will receive push notifications. They may be either Smart Phones and tablets (Android, iOS, Windows phones, etc.), wearable devices or laptop/desktop devices (OS X, Windows 10, etc.)

These devices include client side software components for push notification management:

· Push Notification service: this is the component that will present and display notifications to the user.

· Notification forwarder component: this component will forward all notifications received by any of the devices of the user, to the Notification Receiver at the Rule-based Notification Management System, on the Cloud Service- Server Side.
