Abstract

Disclosed is a method for applying a cognitive system to predict a person’s risk of contracting medical conditions/symptoms. The system monitors the user’s spending transactions, identifies when the user is making a purchase from an establishment with a known health risk, and then alerts the user to the risk.

Cognitive Method to Improve Quality of Health by Averting Potential Medical Conditions Based on User's Financial Transactions

When health-related outbreaks (e.g., illness due to food contamination) occur in leading food chains or restaurants, the user/customer is not always aware of the situation. Despite news coverage of the health risks, an uninformed user might continue to patronized the restaurant and be in danger of becoming ill.

A system is needed to warn patrons of current health risks at a given food chain or restaurant.

The novel contribution is a method for applying a cognitive system to predict a person’s risk of contracting medical conditions/symptoms. The system monitors the user’s spending transactions and identifies when the user is making a purchase from an establishment with a known health risk. The system proactively notifies the user of the potential health related issues.

The principal novelty is the system’s ability to use machine learning techniques to predict the potential medical condition or symptom(s) as related to the user’s spending habits or monetary transactions. The machine learning model is trained on multiple users’ financial transactions and the associated reported conditions noted in the users’ medical records.
