Abstract

A method and system is disclosed for defining authorities by institutions for privacy access of information in order to authenticate digital identity documents of a user in a field. Thus, the method and system, based on the defined authorities, validates authenticators or authorities for privacy access of information in order to verify digital identity documents of users for specific services.

Institutions such as, but not limited to, The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) have authorities such as law enforcement that are required to verify digital identity documents such as, but not limited to, driver’s license, passport. However, an owner of the digital identity documents needs to verify the validity of a law enforcement authority for an access of privacy information when challenged for authentication. Further, the owner of the digital identity documents requires a quick reference to other documents that they hold which can match the needs for the challenge.

For example, consider the owner of a digital driver’s license has been approached by an undercover law enforcement officer for a challenge of identity. In this case, the owner is unsure of the identity of the law enforcement officer and may feel hesitant to reveal personal information such as, but not limited to, the driver's license number, home address, for verification of the owner’s identity.

Disclosed is a method and system for defining authorities by institutions for privacy access of information in order to authenticate digital identity documents of a user in a field. Thus, the method and system, based on the defined authorities, validates authenticators or authorities for privacy access of information in order to verify digital identity documents of users for specific services.

The method and system provides a dashboard which allows an issuer or institution of the digital identity to define roles for a digital document in order to enable the owner of the digital identity to match a request for the document information from an authority that can be validated as trusted.

The method and system provides a dashboard which is used by institutions to define digital document types and assigns roles associated with the digital documents. The dashboard provides a means for defining authorities to enable recognition in a specific field or service for authenticating as well as a means to provide services for the authorities defined via the dashboard.

For example, an authority such as a County Sheriff has a password and login to the institution to obtain credentials for the authority defined as well as resources and services available for that authority such as, but not limited to, support Uniform Resource Locators (URLs).

In accordance with an embodiment of the method and system, the process for creating an authority role is illustrated as follows.

Firstly, the method and system defines associated acquisition URL for authorities to obtain the document type at a point of sale.
