Abstract

Baker Hughes Incorporated (BHI) intends to use peptide-based affinity tags with an affinity toward iron oxide to bind to nascent and mature sources of corrosion to mitigate corrosion in oil field equipment. These affinity tags can be linked to other molecules designed to 'seal' the corrosion spot and act as carriers to prevent further galvanic corrosion. The proposed technology will provide a targeted system where a molecule of choice could mitigate problematic corrosion points on equipment, tanks or pipes. The attached molecules can provide additional benefits such as bacteriocide, corrosion inhibitor or barrier to prevent expansion of corrosion. The objective of this idea is to generate formulations containing a single peptide tag or formulations containing peptide tag linked to other molecules to prevent corrosion and exploit the peptide tagged molecules for different oil field applications.
