Abstract

A system and method are disclosed in which the system could use information on real

world events of users to help them achieve their goals more effectively. Accordingly, the

operating system classifies any incoming events in the user's phone as either positive or negative

events. The system could also keep track of the user's behavior and evaluate the user's action

against any set of goals they are trying to achieve. The system uses the positive or negative

events to create system responses or notifications. When the device detects a user action, the

system classifies the action as positive or negative and appropriately delivers either a positive or

a negative notification to condition the user toward achieving their goals. The advantage of this

system is that the system uses events that are important to the user to condition the user's

behavior.

TIMING THE RELEASE OF EVENTS TO HELP USERS

ACHIEVE DESIRED BEHAVIOR

ABSTRACT

A system and method are disclosed in which the system could use information on real

world events of users to help them achieve their goals more effectively. Accordingly, the

operating system classifies any incoming events in the user’s phone as either positive or negative

events. The system could also keep track of the user’s behavior and evaluate the user's action

against any set of goals they are trying to achieve. The system uses the positive or negative

events to create system responses or notifications. When the device detects a user action, the

system classifies the action as positive or negative and appropriately delivers either a positive or

a negative notification to condition the user toward achieving their goals. The advantage of this

system is that the system uses events that are important to the user to condition the user’s

behavior.

BACKGROUND

In this technology driven world, people try to achieve their goals by using tracking apps

that could motivate, change habits, track each day’s progress and reward users. These apps in

general use the idea of gamification in order to reward the user for achieving their goals.

However, the impact of “made up” rewards from points etc. in a game is known to be minor

when compared to real world events. This renders the in-app rewards mostly ineffective

compared to the rewards related to real world events. Hence for users to achieve their goals

effectively, information about real world events would be more relevant.

DESCRIPTION

A system and method are disclosed in which the system uses notifications on real world

events such as messages, news events or public information on their mobiles to help users to

achieve their goals more effectively, as illustrated in FIG. 1. Accordingly the user sets a goal to

be achieved. The goals could be explicitly set by the user or could also be inferred. Next, the

operating system classifies any incoming event in the user’s phone such as a message

notification, a news event or public information as either a positive or a negative event. The

system keeps track of the user’s behavior and evaluates the user's action against the set goals the

user is trying to achieve. The system then uses the positive and negative events to create system

responses to either encourage positive user actions or discourage negative user actions. When the

device detects a user action, the system classifies the action as either positive or...
