BACKGROUND

Video sharing is a common interaction in chat applications. Watching videos together,

e.g., with a friend in a chat application, can be more engaging and fun for users of chat

applications, than watching videos on their own. Suggestions of additional content, such as

related videos, when viewing a video can permits users to discover videos that may be of

interest, and improves the chat experience, e.g., when users keep sharing additional videos with

each other.

Currently, video sharing websites allow users to play videos and provide information

about related videos. Chat applications permit users to send videos to each other, e.g., as video

files, or as links to a video sharing website. However, chat applications do not provide

mechanisms for users to view videos together and discover related content directly in the chat

application. To discover and share additional videos, a user needs to initiate a search for a video.
