Method and System for Cognitive Shortening of Device Notification Messages

Reading/sending messages while driving is associated with extreme risk for the driver as well as the other passengers riding in the vehicle as the driver tends to get distracted. Nevertheless, drivers continue to read/text messages while driving.

Disclosed is a method and system that shortens device notification messages based on the speed of the viewer of the notification message, thereby limiting the use of a device while driving, yet allowing the driver to glance at the message notifications

In accordance with the method and system, the message sent to a receiving device includes but is not limited to sms, mms, voicemail transcripts, social media message, application based message and other push notifications. In a cloud based implementation, on receiving a message on the receiving device, the system determines the speed of the receiving device. If the speed of the receiving device is within a predetermined threshold, the system displays the message in the same format as it was sent. If the speed of the receiving device is above the predetermined threshold, the system determines the character count of the message. If the character count is below a predetermined threshold count, the system sends the message and if the character count is above the predetermined threshold count, the system shortens the message below the predetermined threshold count.
