Abstract

A system and method which enables a driver to fetch advertising content from a billboard into a smart device, at the time of driving or after. The method works based on matching Geo-location of the billboard and the Geo-location of the driver at a point in time, or the path which was traversed during the trip. A knowledge base of billboard Geo-locations is maintained, and can be subscribed to by parties wishing to disseminate information or advertising content via a billboard.

Geo filtered billboard information fetchBillboards are a very effective advertising medium. Some are designed very cleverly and catch the attention and interest of the audience. One popular strategy is for billboards to be placed near the edges of busy roads or populated areas. However, driving requires full attention, so it is difficult for a driver (or passenger, for that matter) to digest any detailed content from a roadside billboard display.A system and method which enables a driver to fetch advertising content from a billboard into a smart device, at the time of driving or after. The method works based on matching Geo-location of the billboard and the Geo-location of the driver at a point in time, or the path which was traversed during the trip.A knowledge base of billboard Geo-locations is maintained, and can be subscribed to by parties wishing to disseminate information or advertising content via a billboard. The information to be disseminated can be tailored according to certain factors such as time of day or time of year.A driver equipped with a smart device notices a billboard of interest and triggers an app which matches the current Geo-location of his or her car with the coverage of the subscribed billboards in the knowledge base. The message(s) or advertisement(s) which cover the car's location, at that time, will be downloaded to the smart device to be browsed later.This also may be implemented as an auto-download to fetch the advertisements on the way automatically, or even to download the registered advertisements on a certain path from point A to point B. The auto-download or path based fetch enables an advertiser to register virtual billboards as well.Although limiting the coverage is possible, the 'visibility' or range of coverage is not limited to eye-sight or time, or dependent on the direction of travel.
