Method and System for Providing Smart Earphone Based Risk Assessment

Although it is common sense to avoid texting/listening to loud music for pedestrians walking on the street, more often than not people are seen getting distracted on the streets and bumping into danger due to these distractions.

There exists a need for a system that enables a user to be aware of potential dangers in the surrounding area and simultaneously have an enjoyable listening experience.

Disclosed is a method and system that provides smart earphone based risk assessment for a user via a smartphone app. The method and system integrates real time information including, but is not limited to, current General Positioning System (GPS) based location, weather report, traffic condition, public transportation schedules, past incident reports and current tweet/posts from social media for intelligently amplifying/suppressing background noises based on the risk assessment for the user.

In accordance with the method and system, the system includes an earphone, an internet enabled smart phone and an associated smartphone app, wherein the earphone is connected to the smartphone.

The smartphone app associated with the user’s smartphone facilitates the integration of real-time information including, but is not limited to, current GPS based location, weather report, traffic condition, public transportation schedules, past incident reports and current tweet/posts from social media for enabling the system to conduct a risk assessment for the user. Thereafter, the system intelligently decides whether to amplify/suppress background noises for the user and warn users of potential dangers in the surrounding.

In one implementation, the earphone is wired/wirelessly connected to the smartphone, thereby activating the associated smart phone app. The smartphone app collects and integrates real-time information about the user’s surrounding and conducts risk assessment for wearing the earphon...
