Auto-Deflating Ball when Leaving a Predefined Area

In recreational sports that involve a ball (e.g., soccer, volleyball, etc.) fetching balls going out of the play area is a periodical task. Depending of the skills of players, retrieving the ball could introduce prolonged stoppage of the game. Sometimes, the time consumed could run over the actual time for play (e.g., playing two-vs.-two volleyball.)

The novel solution introduces the use of a zone detecting device within the ball . The device automatically deflates the ball when it goes out of the boundaries of play. This prevents the ball from bouncing or rolling too far away and allows the players to quickly resume the game.

A device embedded within the ball detects its location relative to a predefined zone . A ball can contain an embedded device without affecting play [1]. The functionality to detect locations relative to a predefined zone is enabling art [2, 3].

The user first establishes the playable area and indicates it to the device system. The setup process differs based on the technology, but it could be simple as putting a device in the middle of the court and setting a radius . Then, the user can configure the embedded device within the ball to link with the zone device. Once the device detects that it is outside of the zone, the system releases enough air to prevent the ball from bouncing or rolling away.
