Abstract

This invention discloses a novel method to allow mobile users to quickly and directly access the function units of an application. Function unit in an application can be uniquely identified and exposed as a shortcut for easy and direct access. Shortcuts of app function units are displayed as hover help around this app once any special action/gesture is triggered. These shortcuts can be managed by app users and customized by app development teams. App function units are registered on the OS level and all function units can be searched via the OS search function. App users can share the shortcuts of function units via social network.

Method and system to display and share shortcuts of app function units

In today business environment, applications usually have a lot of useful function units. Some are straightforward as they are displayed in the first layer of

the navigation panel; however, some function units are embedded quite deep because:

1.GUI is limited in space.

2.Function units could have been organized based on certain business logic.

As a result, these function units can be accessed only after users perform multiple clicks. If users want to switch from one function unit to another, they

would need to perform quite some back>back>back>click>click>click operations.

Is there a way to quickly call the frequently accessed function units without opening the app and searching for the functions via several back and forth

clicks?

This invention discloses a novel method to allow mobile users to quickly and directly access the function units of an application:

1. Function unit in an application can be uniquely identified and exposed as a shortcut for easy and direct access.

2. Shortcuts of app function units are displayed as hover help around this app once any special action/gesture is triggered.

3. These shortcuts can be managed by app users and customized by app development teams.

4. App function units are registered on the OS level and all function units can be searched via the OS search function.

5. The size of shortcut indicates the priority of the function unit among all function units provide by the app. The icon of a function unit shortcut is

defined by the app vendor.

6. App users can share the shortcuts of function units via social network.

7. The GUI embodiment of the shortcuts is dynamically changed to fit the mobile screen size.

8. Apps always show the shortcuts of the function units with a high priority. App users can drag and move the shortcuts to display hidden shortcuts

(with a lower priority) if there are too many shortcuts.
