A method and system is disclosed for dynamically identifying the most preferred mode of communication of a target recipient, most likely to produce the desired response time. The method and system tracks and stores the latest response time statistics of every potential message recipient for all the available communication modes for a user and further updates the database after each transaction.

The ever expanding modes of communication, especially the instant messaging applications have raised the expectations of users in terms of receiving instant responses to communications. However, a message sender cannot remember the preferred mode of communication among the abundant communication options, especially for every contact the sender communicates with.

The erstwhile systems of determining the preferred mode of communication for a particular contact includes an option to save a preferred communication mode on a smart phone, wherein the user chooses the preferred mode based on his guess among the myriad of options. Therefore, the response time of a recipient varies with each communication with instances where the sender may never receive a response from the recipient. An abundance of communication applications is installed these days, wherein each contact has a different comfort level with different applications, making the entire process all the more difficult.

Also, different parameters like a recipient's location, data usage and current state may influence the preferred mode of communication of a recipient, thereby making the erstwhile systems inefficient.

Thus, there exists a need for a system that enables identification and execution of individually tailored peer to peer preferred communications methods.

Disclosed is a method and system that dynamically identifies the most preferred mode of communication of a target recipient, most likely to produce the desired response time. The method and system tracks latest response time statistics corresponding to every potential recipient across all available communication modes. The method updates the statistics after every communication between the user and a recipient.

In accordance with the method and system as illustrated in Figure 1, system includes selecting a desired recipient by a user at step A1, wherein the method of selecting includes but is not limited to voice command, text, clicking a selection, touch screen selection, pull down box and looking up a list. At step A2, response time logic involves searching a response time database for information regarding a selected recipient, wherein on finding a record for the selected recipient, the discovery module D searches for any new communication mode data for the recipient and updates the existing record. If a record for the selected recipient does not exist, a new record is created in the response time database and the discovery module searches for new public data, regarding available and preferred communications modes for the selected user. At step A3, collected data from the database including any discovery data is presented to the message sender (user), wherein the collected data is listed in order of most to least effective mode of communication for the user.
