Background

In today's world, even kids use laptop/digital devices and access online contents. Even if parental control is applied on the digital device, kids still can access inappropriate contents. For example, instead of creating project work, the kid is playing game. Whereas parents wants the kid to work on the project work. In this case, kids can keep display direction is such a way that, parents will not be able to view what he is being doing. Kids can hide display screen or can have it in opposite direction of parents field of view and so the kids can misuse the internet access.

Shortcomings in the existing solution

Though there are multiple solutions implementing parental controls in accessing online contents but everything focuses on firewall based or application based or time based control.. None of the existing solutions discusses about how often the parent can look at the display plane of the kid and accordingly provide degree of attention.

Proposed Solution

Below proposed is a method and system by which, specific contents or activities of the kid with the display device will be authorized if the parents keep the degree of attention for a more than threshold value.

1. Camera installed in the display device will identify parent’s degree of attention on kid’s display device based on how much percentage of time the display plane comes within the field of view of the parent, accordingly software will calculate the degree of attention of the parent towards kid’s activity on the display device

2. Sensor installed in the display device will calculate the projected display surface plane of the device within the field of view of the parent, if the projected display plane of the device is less than threshold limit then software will not consider the device is present within the field of view of the parent.

3. Various contents, activities of the kid will be mapped with various degree of attention level of the parent. So based on identified degree of attention of the parent, appropriate authorization will be given to the kid to view various contents. For example, if the degree of attention of parent is more than 50 %, then the kid will be allowed to use WhatsApp.

4. For any specific activity, parents may be requested to increase the degree of attention towards the display screen, and kids might be notified about the current level of access permission based on identified degree of attention of the parent.

5. Parent might use camera around the area to keep required degree of attention towards kid’s activity on the display device, in this case the participating devices of the parent will identify if the parent is using camera feel to monitor the kid, accordingly appropriate contents will be authorized to the kid based on calculated degree of attention.
