Abstract

In this article we propose a method and framework to secure portable devices and its accessories cognitively without any need for user to take any action. Even when user is away his or her devices can be secured to avoid theft of devices In current technology world, we use the asset to manage our day to day work using Laptop, Portable device, Data storage device, and internet access using USB based device (dongle). Once users is charging there device in public place or less secured area than it is stolen as user is not able to put proper attention or user is not around the device. Once user connect the USB storage device than it can be easily stolen due to lack of proper user attention. In some scenarios, user share their internet connecting device (dongle) in group .There are many cases once user is not around the dongle are easily stolen. The shared dongle also require to manage the device once any of users crosses the allocated data size. This is also applicable to portable storage devices connected through USB ports. For devices like laptops we have to lock these using a separate locking cable that prevents any theft of such devices in public places. We have resolved this vulnerability of theft, management of shared device by coupling the user profile with Asset. Once device is not able to access the User profile (within certain distance) than device will be locked by using the proposed smart lock..

We have resolved this vulnerability of theft, management of shared device by coupling the user profile with Asset. Once device is not able to access the User profile (within certain distance) than device will be locked by using the proposed smart lock.

The idea proposes a method for smart locking of moveable and portable electronic devices during charging and being connected to other electronic devices through USB ports. This solution is very useful to secure the moveable devices which are having the camera/proximity sensors. This can leverage the charging cable with ultra-secure mechanism (having steel wire jacket). In male socket, jack we will have physical grooves, and the female socket, slot will have spring operated physical lever, these lever will be fixed on the groove to lock the jack, USB etc. The spring operated lock will automatically be applied, if the owner is not within the vicinity or user has locked the device. Once the user arrives in the place, or unlock the device or completed his activity the lock will be released.

This smart secure locking system does not require any external power or arrangement. The providence of this lock only require one time cost of purchasing. Once smart locking system is available in market than it can almost minimizes or remove the theft of these electronic asset.

Key Features of proposed idea include:-

1- Method providing ability to automatically apply physical lock to protect devices attached to computer / laptop/portable devices - simply by presence of authorized user who is looking or working with the computer / laptop without need of any additional action from user. 2- Electronic device can be tightly coupled with user profile. Users without registered profile can be restricted in unlocking the device. 3- Current Charging cables/accessories can be changed to smart power cable comprising of steel wire jacket on cable and Smart lock devices at both ends, the electrical power point and charging sock...
