Abstract

The present invention relates to a method and system for facilitating drive for a driver of a vehicle with an electrically controllable clutch and a clutch pedal non-physically connected to the clutch. The control of the clutch may depend on situation, driver behaviour etc. There may be situations where the control of the clutch deviates from driver request via clutch pedal actuation. In order to avoid confusing the driver in such situations feedback is provided to the driver emulating clutch slip expected from the driver based on the driver request by actuation of the clutch pedal. The feedback may comprise adjusting tachometer presentation and/or engine sound corresponding to expected engine speed and engine sound based on such a request and hence position of the clutch pedal.

BACKGROUND ART

Vehicles may be equipped with powertrains with controllable clutch arrangements. For a conventional manual transmission a clutch pedal is mechanically connected to the clutch, i.e. there is a physical connection between the clutch pedal and the clutch of the clutch arrangement. For controllable clutch arrangements the clutch pedal may be connected to the clutch via an electronic control unit. Clutch By Wire (CBW) is a solution for such a controllable clutch arrangement to replace the physical connection between the clutch pedal and the clutch. In such an arrangement the position of the clutch pedal is detected by means of a sensor. The electronic control unit is arranged to control the clutch based on the clutch pedal position using a clutch actuator.

In some situations it may be desired not to fully follow the request from the driver regarding driver actuated positioning of the clutch pedal for controlling the clutch. For example in vehicle starts in an uphill slope utilizing a hill start aid function of a system of the vehicle, the system can be arranged to apply the brakes instead of transferring torque with the clutch if the requested torque indicated via the position of the clutch pedal is below the required torque to hold the vehicle in the slope. It may be arranged to avoid engaging the clutch at all until the driver requests enough torque from the driveline to overcome the driving resistance. For a vehicle having only two pedals, gas pedal and brake pedal, such a function may also be applied in e.g. a hill hold start, wherein the brakes are activated until the torque is sufficient to overcome the driving resistance.
