Typically acoustic caliper sensors are used to measure the diameter of a wellbore. Integrating the measurement in an under reamer allows to measure the site of the enlarged hole. An acoustic sensor is influenced by cuttings that are present between the sensor and the wellbore wall. By positioning the sensor in an area where the amount of cutting is low will improve the measurement quality. This position needs to be determined with CFD simulations and will be located in the "shadow" behind the cutter blades.ipip
