Light stabilizer for plasticized halogen containing polymers

The compound of formula (A), disclosed in Example 2 of WO 2011/029744 A1, is particularly useful as a light stabilizer in plastic applications, typically plasticized halogen containing polymers, used in interior and exterior applications.

Typically, such compound is incorporated in the polymer matrix in individual form or through the preparation of a masterbatch that generally speaking is a concentrate of additives or a concentrate in plasticizer as solution or paste, subsequently used, for practical reasons, to obtain the final articles with the desired concentration of the aforementioned compound of the formula (A).

The compound of formula (A) can be used alone or in combination with other types of additives. Either in individual form or using several masterbatches in the preparation of the final article. The compound of formula (A) can be used in applications in combination with a UV-absorber belonging to the family of the benzotriazole, benzophenone, benzoate or triazinic compounds to provide a synergistic effect in the light stabilization performance. Other classes of additives that can be used include antioxidants, acid scavengers, hindered amine stabilizers, slip agents, anti-block agents, fillers, pigments having different functionalities, anti-fog and anti-mist agents, antistatic agents, lubricants, biocides, blowing agents, smoke surpressants.

Chapter 1:

The compound of formula (A), disclosed in Example 2 of WO 2011/029744 A1, is particularly useful as a stabilizer in compositions containing an organic material susceptible to degradation induced by light, heat, physical stress, radiation, or oxidation. The compound of formula (A) can advantageously be used as a stabilizer in one of the following organic materials:

1. Halogen-containing polymers such as polychloroprene, chlorinated rubbers, chlorinated and brominated copolymer of isobutylene-isoprene (halobutyl rubber), chlorinated or sulfochlorinated polyethylene, copolymers of ethylene and chlorinated ethylene, epichlorohydrin homo- and copolymers, especially polymers of halogen-containing vinyl compounds, for example polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, polyvinyl fluoride, polyvinylidene fluoride, as well as copolymers thereof such as vinyl chloride/vinylidene chloride, vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate or vinylidene chloride/vinyl acetate copolymers. Polyvinyl chloride may be rigid or flexible.

2. Blends of the aforementioned polymers (polyblends), for example PVC/EVA, PVC/ABS, PVC/MBS, PVC/CPE, or PVC/acrylates,
