Abstract

Many users when using Android devices access one or two apps more often than other apps that may also be installed on the Android device. Android devices have a default lock screen which unlocks the device and opens to a home screen if no application is running in the foreground. After unlocking to the home screen, the user then has to open up the app he wishes to use. If he has to access that app many times throughout the day, time is wasted in having to complete these steps repeatedly. This invention proposes an alternative approach. By using machine learning, the device can learn two of the most frequently used apps on the device. These two apps can then be displayed to the user on the lock screen. When unlocking the device, the user can then choose to unlock to either of the two application options.

be installed on the Android device. Android devices have a default lock screen which unlocks the device

and opens to a home screen if no application is running in the foreground. After unlocking to the home

screen, the user then has to open up the app he wishes to use. If he has to access that app many times

throughout the day, time is wasted in having to complete these steps repeatedly.

This invention proposes an alternative approach. By using machine learning, the device can learn two of

the most frequently used apps on the device. These two apps can then be displayed to the user on the lock

screen. When unlocking the device, the user can then choose to unlock to either of the two application

options.

This invention works as follows:

1. Using machine learning, the device discovers two apps that are the most frequently used on this

device.

2. These two apps will be displayed on the lock screen. The user will be able to directly unlock to

either of these two apps or to the normal home screen.

In security enabled devices, upon correct entry of a PIN (Password or the pattern) these two apps will be

displayed on the lock screen for a configured time-out period. The user can select either of these two

apps within a timeout interval or the device will unlock to the normal home screen after the timeout.
