Abstract

The proposed design idea relates to a mobile computer with a connected but detachable barcode scanner. The barcode scanner may be connected to the mobile computer through a port in the mobile computer. When the barcode scanner is physically disconnected, it automatically reconnects via a wireless communication connection (BLE). The present design combines a mobile computer and a barcode scanner with wireless communication functionality in an integrated device, which can be used as a whole.

Mobile Computer with Integral Barcode Scanner

Current mobile computers may have barcode scanners that are connected to the mobile computer, either

by wired connections (serial/USB) or wireless connections (Bluetooth). For an environment where both

wired and the wireless barcode scanners are being utilized, the following problems can be identified:

1. there is a need to purchase two products (mobile computer and wireless barcode scanner);

2. there is a need to charge the components separately;

3. there is no quick way to resume to the work if the battery runs out of the wireless barcode scanner

or the mobile computer critically fails.

The proposed design idea relates to a mobile computer with a connected but detachable barcode scanner.

The barcode scanner may be connected to the mobile computer through a port in the mobile computer.

When the barcode scanner is physically disconnected, it automatically reconnects via a wireless

communication connection (BLE). The present design combines a mobile computer and a barcode

scanner with wireless communication functionality in an integrated device, which can be used as a whole.

When in wired mode, the mobile computer communicates to the barcode scanner via a first connector in a

port within the mobile computer. This makes the barcode scanner function similarly to a built-in barcode

scanner. In addition to that, the mobile computer will charge the battery of the barcode scanner.

By using the proposed barcode scanner, the user will ben...
