Abstract

The invention discloses devices and methods for a modular sensor adapter for a lighting fixture. The modular adapter includes a module housing and a sensor module bracket to fit into the housing. The sensor module can be inserted between two lighting fixtures or could be affixed to the end of a light fixture when closed with a cover. The sensor module bracket holds the sensor and can be easily customized for any size or shape of sensor. Only a change of sensor bracket is needed to adapt to the different shapes and forms of sensors. This sensor module is installed between two fixtures allowing a continuity of the lines of a continuous row of fixtures. Advantages of the invention include a common aesthetic look for the fixtures with implementation of any sort of sensor. The modular nature of the fixture also provides various design and manufacturing related advantages.

SENSOR ADAPTER MODULE FOR LIGHTING FIXTURES

BACKGROUND

The invention relates generally to lighting fixtures and in particular to a versatile sensor adaptor module for lighting fixtures. With the introduction of big data and the internet of things, there is a growth in sensors in everything including lighting fixtures. Currently, for every sensor, a different location is determined depending on its use and function. Incorporating different sensor model shapes and forms to a lighting fixture is difficult and a custom solution has to be made for each sensor model. When the sensor is too big, space provisioning could be a problem and it is also a challenge to maintain aesthetics when different sized components are to be added.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS

The invention discloses a modular sensor adapter module for lighting fixtures, in which:

FIG. 1 shows a modular sensor adapter affixed between two lighting fixtures.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The invention discloses devices and methods for a modular sensor adapter for a lighting fixture. A modular adapter according to the invention as illustrated in FIG. 1 includes a module housing and a sensor module bracket to fit into the housing as shown in the figure. The sensor module can be inserted between two lighting fixtures as shown in FIG. 1 or could be affixed to the end of a light fixture when closed with a cover. The sensor module bracket holds the sensor and can be easily customized for any size or shape of sensor. Only a change of sensor bracket is needed to adapt to the different shapes and forms of sensors, apart from doing the wiring as required in each case. This sensor module is installed between two fixtures allowing a continuity of the lines of a continuous row of fixtur...
