Abstract

A novel leakage protection to be installed on a liquid quick coupling is suggested. The leakage protection reduces the bending moment caused by the pipe on the sealing ring within the quick coupling, whereby the probability for a leakage is reduced. The leakage protection will further direct the leaking liquid in a safe direction in a possible situation of a leakage.

LEAKAGE PROTECTION FOR A LIQUID QUICK COUPLING

The function of a liquid coupling is to form the connection between a pipe or hose and the

application of the liquid. Liquid couplings are used in frequency converters in order to connect

cooling pipes to cooling elements or to manifolds. So called push-in quick couplings are a new

type of liquid quick couplings intended for a quick connection and disconnection of pipes. The

tightness of the connection in this kind of couplings is based on a sealing ring within the coupling.

If the sealing between the pipe and the sealing ring for some reason fails, the result is a leakage.

The leaking liquid may cause considerable damage within the frequency converter, which means

that the risk for a leakage should be minimal. If such a leakage would occur, then one should

minimize the damages cause by the leaking liquid as far as possible.

A leakage protection to be installed on the quick coupling is a solution to the problem. The leakage

protection reduces the bending moment caused by the pipe on the sealing within the quick

coupling, whereby the probability for a leakage is reduced. The leakage protection will direct the

leaking liquid in a safe direction in a possible situation of a leakage.

The novel leakage protection minimizes the probability of a leakage and directs the leaking liquid

towards the connection point of the quick coupling in a situation of leakage.

The liquid quick coupling comprises small teeth inside the leakage protection. The small

teeth snap onto the collar in the liquid quick coupling, whereby the leakage protection

becomes attached to the liquid quick coupling. The leakage protection will thus move
