Abstract

RETROFITABLE CONTACTLESS POWER SUPPLY FOR MOVEABLE SEATS With regard to the present "flexible in-seat power" project, a lightweight version of the contactless power system can be a possible solution. Focus lies on simplicity, early entry into service, robustness and retrofitability. This idea specifies a new version and requires changes compared to the traditional (full) contactless power system.

Many patents for contactless power system in an aircraft cabin suggest a power supply for seatrows without seat to seat cabling.

The idea is to provide for a contactless power system and the flexible seats being retrofittable without any changes on aircraft electronics meaning no changes on aircraft, no additional components that need to be built in behind aircraft lining, no changes of cabling (i.e. conventional power supply). The idea is to provide for a contactless power system and the flexible seats being retrofittable without any changes on aircraft electronics meaning no changes on aircraft, no additional components that need to be built in behind aircraft lining, no changes of cabling (i.e. conventional power supply). The system shall be a standalone version without link to other systems (e.g. the cabin management system). Our idea is that the contactless power system shall be equipped for a section of preferably seven movable seatrows in an aircraft cabin. With the help of the new system configurations are possible, where seatrow (e.g. 11) can be folded and other seatrows (e.g. 4-10) gain an additional seat pitch of e.g. 2” each. The proposed reduced contactless power system shall provide power for USB devices for every seat, as well as DC power for an in-seat wireless in-flight entertainment device. It shall be operable without any manual configuration. This means, that the system shall autodetect and power positions with an equipped seat. After a reconfiguration, this process shall be triggered again without any manual interaction (besides power on/off). As there shall be as little changes as possible, the power supply shall remain in a traditional Manner. The data connection shall be eliminated and lateron be replaced by a wireless connection. There is a wall disconnect box which provides power to e.g. seatrows 2, 3, and 12. From there, seat to seat cables provide power to adjacent seatrows.
