Abstract

The typical boarding in a civil aircraft means passengers that are going through a jet bridge and the luggage is stowed with containers inside the cargo compartment below.

We propose a blended wing body creating a new state of the art with respect to the aircraft layout.

Herein, the cargo compartment would be on the same height position like the passengers. The flow direction for loading or unloading the luggage compartment could be changed by lifting the A/C autonomous or by a separated lifting unit. The luggage could be stored in a standard transport container which creates a standard interfaces with the cargo floor and transport surfaces.

JET BRIDGE LOADING

The typical boarding in a civil aircraft means passengers that are going through a jet bridge and the luggage is stowed with containers inside the cargo compartment below. This separates bombs and fire from the passenger compartment and allows a professional packing. We propose a blended wing body creating a new state of the art with respect to the aircraft layout. Herein, the cargo compartment would be on the same height position like the passengers: A blended wing body would use two jet bridges for luggage boarding. The jet bridges have a downward slope which can be used for automation of luggage boarding. The luggage boarding / flow starts from a stowage area. The unloading is a reoriented flow. The loading baggage flow is using the gravity, the unloading is upwards possible with a band – conveyor or jet bridge which is oriented downwards and also allows gravity unloading.

The flow direction for loading or unloading the luggage compartment could be changed by lifting the A/C autonomous or by a separated lifting unit.

The flow direction for unloading the luggage compartment could also or additionally be changed by actuation / lifting of the luggage floor. The luggage would be stored in a standard transport container which creates a standard interfaces with the cargo floor and transport surfaces.
