Abstract

This publication relates to the evaluation of the formulation possibilities with silicone resin blend emulsions. The silicone resin blend contains but is not limited to MQ resin (INCI name: Trimethylsiloxysilicate) and T propyl resin (INCI name: Polypropylsilsesquioxane) dispersed in a carrier fluid. The carrier could be but not limited to cyclopentasiloxane, Isododecane, Dimethicone (2 cSt), Caprylyl Methicone and other volatile or nonvolatile fluids. Addition of a thickener such as Xanthan gum, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate would improve stability. Also disclosed is the formulation of the silicone resin blend emulsion in combination with a broad range of cosmetic ingredients, including organic film formers, covering all types of applications such as foundation, face care, sunscreen, hair treatment cream, hair mist spray, lip color, eye liner, mascara, etc. The film forming performance of the starting resin blend in carrier fluid was maintained across the different formulations demonstrating the ease of use of this resin emulsion and expanding the possibilities to use silicone resins across a broader range of formulation types with in some case, new types of texture and feel.

Introduction Silicone fluid has been used around for more than 30 years and became very popular in skin care products thanks to the non-tacky sensory feel. Silicone resin was developed as a film former for color cosmetics and sunscreens to provide long lasting performance, good water resistance and sebum resistance in skin care application but in some cases, it was difficult to add to water base formulations since it is oil type material. This new silicone resin blend emulsion was found to be easy to use in this type of formulation while still providing long lasting benefit, water and sebum resistance, flexible film and smooth sensory. The purpose of this work was to demonstrate the formulation possibilities using silicone resin blend emulsion including the possible combinations with a broad range of cosmetic ingredients covering all types of applications such as sunscreen, foundations, color cosmetic formulation and hair care products.
