Abstract

For a species-appropriate transport of pets/animals inside an aircraft cabin, special designed pet stowages, directly integrated in monuments, are proposed. It is disclosed a monument with integrated fix pet boxes for a species-appropriate transport. The boxes can be integrated in "unused" areas of monuments (single boxes) or could be placed as a separate monument in the cabin - comparable to a dog houses or wardrobe. To offer the best possible accommodation for the pets during the flight, different sized boxes are available – this special design enables a best possible space utilization of the available assembly space.

Pet Stowage Monument

1. Technical field

An application for passenger aircrafts with a species-appropriate transport inside the

cabin is desired. Special boxes for transportation of pets (dogs and cats) inside the pas-

senger cabin should be provided.

2. Problem

For transportation of animal (pets) there are two main variants are available: in a soft

box inside the cabin or in a box inside the cargo comportment. Carry on pets inside the

cabin are limited by the weight, size and the sort of the animal. At most of the airlines,

the transportation max weight is limited by 8-10kg (inclusive the soft box).

The (soft) box has to stow during the complete flight under the seat directly in front of

the owner and must be closed at every time. Pets of more than 10kg body weight, taller

than the maximal determined dimensions or which don’t count as one piece of carry-on

baggage have to be stowed in a special IATA (International Air Transport Association)

transport kennel – certified for aircraft use – in the cargo compartment.

A further variant are service animals which have to be close to their owners. For these

special animals an extra seat has to be booked.

Further design solutions which provides transportation devices of pets (dogs and cats)

inside the passenger cabin, especially in an aircraft are desirable. 1

3. Problem solution and description of the solution

For a species-appropriate transport of pets/animals inside an aircraft cabin, special de-

signed pet stowages, directly integrated in monuments, are proposed. The technical so-

lution increases not only the comfort of the pets it also improves the welfare of the

owner when their pet is transported next to them in an optimal surrounding. For the air-

line, this special monument generates a new field of additional fee-based on-board ser-

vice.

The technical solution consists of a monument with integrated fix pet boxes for a spe-

cies-appropriate transport. The boxes can be integrated in “unused” areas of monu-

ments (single boxes) or could be placed as a separate monument in the cabin - compa-
