Method and System for Incorporating an Electric Nose (E-Nose) into Headspace of a Coffee Container

The existing methods and systems facilitate determination of coffee quality during manufacturing process by utilizing analytical chemistry instruments such as, but not limited to gas chromatographs (GC) and mass spectrometers (MS). Such instruments require significant amount of human intervention to perform analysis and then relate the analysis to something usable. Additionally, an electric nose (E-nose) is utilized to detect volatile organic compounds (VOC) and aromatic compounds evolved from various coffee cultivators, espresso and roasted coffee. However, once the coffee is packed and shipped to a distributor/grocer, there are no means for a consumer to determine freshness of the coffee. Therefore, a need exists to measure coffee freshness not only during the manufacturing process, but at the point of distribution and sale.

Disclosed is a method and system for incorporating an E-Nose into headspace of a coffee container. The E-nose is an instrument that utilizes electronic sensors to detect odors and flavors. The E-nose is incorporated into the headspace of the coffee bag or container in order to determine freshness of the coffee at the point of distribution or sale.
