A video stream (or image) with augmented reality (AR) overlay in a mobile

collaboration application is used to identify and provision a device for the user of the

application for long term or temporary use. The user directs the smartphone/tablet camera

at the device, accepts a user selection if required, and recognizes and provisions the device

as requested. Thus, a user may simply point a mobile device camera at an enterprise

communication endpoint in order to configure and/or use the endpoint.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Making configuration changes or onboarding a voice/video endpoint in a

collaboration solution can be complex. Normally, an administrator is required to provision

the endpoint, after which the user has to log in and provide additional information. Recent

improvements include use of a 16-20 digit provisioning code associated with the user

and/or quick response codes associated with the user. The code is provided by an

administrator and scanned by the device for a level of self-provisioning.

A system is presented herein that allows the end user to initiate a provisioning

process by using the collaboration application to visually recognize the endpoint and use

proximity and identity to complete the process with minimal user interaction. In addition

to traditional on-premise endpoint provisioning, this technique is also useful to provision

existing endpoints for cloud connectivity.

This system is based on ease of provisioning endpoints. Normally, this is an

administrator or user preference operation. The system improves utilization of devices by

making it easier for a user to begin using devices (or acquire for temporary use, as in the

case of room systems). This may be relevant to a wide range of use cases, including:

• First time device provisioning.

• Provisioning an existing device for individual use (e.g., in a hotel / guest /

extension mobility case).

o This applies to room systems or reuse of personal/office devices.

• Adding (or removing) cloud connectivity to an existing on-premise device.

• Pointing a camera at an arbitrary device and joining a meeting on that device.

The system may use a combination of live video (or image) of a communication

device taken from the collaboration application combined with the known identity and

location of the user (via the collaboration application) relative to that device. In an example,

device provisioning may be based on the use of the collaboration mobile application (e.g.,

video showing available device(s) in an area around the user). The mobile application may

locally recognize potential devices (e.g., phones, video endpoints, conferencing equipment,

digital whiteboards, etc.) within view in the video stream and prompt a user to select the
