Method and System for Providing Customized Weather Alerts by Mining Social Activities and Events of Users

Disclosed is a method and system for providing customized weather alerts mining social activities and events of users. The method and system evaluates weather/climatic preferences of an individual user or a group of users for particular activities, and provides weather notifications/alerts to the user or the group of users, regarding any upcoming similar events/activities. Weather condition preferences for particular activities are evaluated based on sentiment analysis of social posts made by the user or the group of users.

In accordance with the method and system, by applying sentiment analysis, activities of the user or the group of users are tracked and weather alerts are generated that reflect most important factors and values for a particular activity. Additionally, the method and system identifies event context data such as location, and time, and extracts real weather data for creating alerts to the user or integrated alerts to the group of users.

The method and system comprises a sentiment analysis module that is trained to detect user sentiments in weather related statements by establishing a set of classes and classifying user utterances or statements. Thereafter, an entity extractor extracts user preferences from the detected statements and applies event context data for mapping user’s statements with real weather data.
