Abstract

Current headlights are fixed position systems. It has the limitation of fixed focus Illumination. These headlights system provide the illumination on the road ahead of the vehicle only. These headlamps cannot control the angle of focus and are having fixed focus even though the orientation of vehicle is changed. A single Hemispherical Headlight Illumination unit is used to control the angle of focus in Left, Right, Up and Down direction. Inside the Hemispherical Headlight Illumination unit, Lights sources (LED) are mounted at different Circular base. There are different circular bases with gradually Increase in Angles (0 to 90 Degree) in all direction from Center of the hemispherical headlight Illumination unit. These helps in achieving progressively Increased Illumination Angle in Left, Right, Up and Down direction.

Background/ problem : Current headlights are fixed position systems. It has the limitation of fixed focus Illumination. These headlights system provide the illumination on the road ahead of the vehicle only. These headlamps cannot control the angle of focus and are having fixed focus even though the orientation of vehicle is changed.

• During turning of vehicle these fixed focus headlights cannot provide sufficient illumination on respective side of Turn (Left/Right). Headlight’s focus angle does not change as vehicle moves left or right side.

• During driving on Hill side road, current headlights system does not adjust focus angle as per the Road’s up and down profile.

It becomes difficult for Operator to detect objects in a path of vehicle’s desired travel direction with this limitation. These will result insufficient illumination for field work as well.

Proposed design/ solution : In the Proposed Design,

1. A single Hemispherical Headlight Illumination unit is used to control the angle of focus in Left, Right, Up and Down direction. Inside the Hemispherical Headlight Illumination unit, Lights sources (LED) are mounted at different Circular base. There are different circular bases with gradually Increase in Angles (0 to 90 Degree) in all direction from Center of the hemispherical headlight Illumination unit. These helps in achieving progressively Increased Illumination Angle in Left, Right, Up and Down direction.

2. Headlight Control Unit is having a Microcomputer which detects the movement of the vehicle in the different direction by reading data from Gyroscope, Steering Wheel Angle Sensor or other similar sensors. Microcomputer also monitor Vehicle Speed for calculation of response time.

3. Microcomputer also reads configuration set by user for selection of Operation, Intensity of Light, Light effects while changing the Focus, etc.

4. Microcomputer then calculate the direction and speed of the change in Focus Angle.

5. Headlight Control Unit then drives the Lights sources (LEDs) of Headlight Illumination unit to have sufficient illumination in vehicles desired direction. Headlight Control Unit also control the intensity of Lights sources (LEDs).

6. User Interface: Operator shall be having an additional Joystick Control to manually adjust/select desired direction and intensity of illumination. Manual Control can be enabled during Field Operation using Joystick enable switch.
